Media obsessions about our young people

Here you’ll find a range of perspectives drawing from external news sources focussing on societal attitudes and behaviours associated with Gen Z (and sometimes Gen Y) such as as workplace and career trends, social and political attitudes, cultural and behavioural shifts in both local as well as global contexts. Some of these pieces are critical or satirical, reflecting the nature and demographic of the source publication’s audience, whilst others are supportive and provide great reasons to feel good about young people.

But here’s the thing: the sources of all this media talk aren’t obscure websites or niche social media; pretty much all of these pieces are from national and international publications with wide readership and supposedly strong reputational news journalism. For this reason I feel that it’s helpful for us to be informed about these attitudes to ensure we shape the best possible outcomes that our smart young people deserve, because after all: our future hopes are in their hands …
